“School has become my main concern – I realize how important my education is and how much my future depends on it. I want to go to college and fill myself with knowledge to later apply to my future career as a junior high school teacher. I feel that through my experiences, I have gained the ability to control the want for more knowledge, and therefore want to plant this seed of ambition in future generations. The only way to do this is to teach and help my future students understand the importance of their education.”
Leslie has combined school activities, soccer, and a college preparatory curriculum at East Palo Alto Academy to get ready for her college experience. She says of the Glow experience, “This program has allowed me to grow as a person and since money is limited in our economy, at least now I can rely on my new financial skills. I have learned how to organize and manage my finances. I now know that I should be in a work study program at the university.” Since she is interested in mathematics and has a passion for music Leslie wants to combine the two fields and be a teacher after college
Leslie played on the East Palo Alto Soccer team, and participated in Girls for a Change, joining the gatherings and enjoying being part of a change for the coming generations. Leslie also volunteered in the Wines and Arts Festival, and became an Opportunity tutor after she had this as a semester class and found that she enjoyed the experience of helping others and wanted to tutor students.
