“For me, receiving a college degree not only serves as a reminder that I can achieve anything that I set my mind to, but it encourages me to pursue better things in life. I would like to work in the business and finance industry because I enjoy competition through innovation. For some, competition brings out the worst, but it brings my best qualities. I believe that dedication will get me further in life.”
Ismael has been on the Honor Roll at San Leandro HS from freshman-senior year, and enrolled in the SLHS Academy for Business and Finance for 3 years, serving as President while a senior. He organized and raised money for student activities in that role. He took 3rd Place in a Rotary Speech Contest in his sophmore year, and was in the top 8 for the DECA California State Competition as a junior. Ismael says, "The careers that I'm interested in are in Business Administration. Mostly, administrating corporations or small businesses, and helping them succeed."
Ismael's other activities included senior year President of the French Club, and San Leandro DECA for three years, helping the DECA chapter organize activities and raise money, as well as competing in DECA Competitions. He was a 2-year member of the Key club, an organization dedicated to volunteering, as well as the High Hopes After School Program, assisting and tutoring students in elementary school.
