“Not only do I want to make a difference in my school community, but I also want to make a change in the larger world. Its unfortunate to realize that the national high school dropout rate of Latinos is high and consequently, the number of Latino students attending college is low. Being Latina, I have always wanted to help improve the numbers. My passion is to help youth arise from this dilemma. I’ve been very fortunate to receive support from many different individuals and therefore, I am determined to give back to my community.”
Ashley has maintained fine school performance and participated in many extracurricular activities. She was a youth advisor on the volunteer Spark board by her sophomore year, helping at discovery nights and fundraisers. In addition to playing left or center field softball at the JV and Varsity level for Menlo, she has done black and white film photography using a 35mm SLR at the advanced level, exhibiting her photographs at Pacific Art league
Ashley helped found Spanglish Club, which welcomes all students at Menlo High and emphasizes Latin culture and history, and served as President of the club. She was also co-leader of the Environmental Awareness Club and organized assembly presentations to increase Menlo's environmental awareness by planning large events such as Green Week (in correlation to Earth day).
